What do you do when you go to a sewing day and instead of packing the aprons that need waistbands you pack the extra fabric? Make the world's oddest fichu. But with the piecing and stripes going every which way, it'll be perfect with the shortgown.
Ever since I made the shortgown I've started thinking about the bizarre caraco in the V&A again. I've toyed with the idea of making it just to figure it out for quite some time now. So, on Friday I thought about it, on Saturday I got the fabric out of storage and started the petticoat, on Sunday I started the shortgown itself, and tonight, except for whipstitching the insides of the pleats down, I finished it!
After being teased by sarahnucci that my version of 18c everyday was really rather Marie Antoinette like, I thought about some fabric that I bought ages ago for a shortgown, and that it really would be a fun project.
